Wind Characteristics and Temporal Trends in Eastern Paraná State, Brazil

The wind is one of the most important and studied variables globally, essential to several sectors, for example, energy. Therefore, this study assesses regime analysis trends in three locations within Paraná state, Brazil. historical series were recorded between 1976 2010 at conventional meteorological stations belonging Brazilian National Institute Meteorology. WRPLOT version 8.0.0 software was used elaborating roses histograms annual seasonal scales. Detection temporal rupture points performed using different statistical methods (Run, Mann–Kendall, Pettitt Shapiro–Wilk tests) all stations. All tests conducted R 3.3.2. On a scale, summer spring present highest speeds Curitiba Paranaguá due systems on scales, such as South Atlantic subtropical anticyclone frontal systems. Mann–Kendall test revealed that Castro presented significance reducing speed, with decrease 0.23 m/s per decade scale during autumn season. These ruptures indicated speed break point detection data station, likely urban expansion started 1980s, especially winter spring. significant reduction possibly interaction natural climate changes increase surface roughness resulting from land use urbanization changes.
